It is with excitement and gratitude that I can share my painting, 'As If It's a Dance' has passed the first round of judging in the Almenara Art Prize!

The idea behind this piece came from this black thrifted dress I found. I loved the open back, as it provided an opportunity to incorporate some anatomical details while still maintaining coverage in a timeless fashion. It also creates a lovely large dark shape and nice silhouette that can balance composition well.

It was so much fun to paint, as it's on the larger scale for me and includes grand sweeping lines that give the painting a sense of movement and rhythm. I also really enjoyed painting the more refined nuances in the back and shoulders with subtle edge variation and temperature shifts.

I'm thankful to the judges for selecting this piece, and stay tuned to see if it passes through the next round!
