3 Day Artist Workshop with the JL Creative Team
Figurative Workshop
The JLC team (Jennie Lou Creative) is a group of wonderful women based primarily in Colorado and Texas who do live event paintings. I was grateful for the invitation to come out to their annual retreat in Texas to do a 3 day workshop on figures and oil painting techniques.

It was an intensive 3 days of demos and painting, but everyone powered through and we had a great time!
For my workshops I always find it helpful to balance the time between slides studying master paintings from different movements, live demos illustrating what we learn from masters, and ample time for artists to practice.
Starting at the basics
The first order of business is always to establish and review the foundational principles and terms in fine art. This review is helpful no matter how experienced the artists, and then we dive into the elements that elevate your paintings to the next level.
More Than You Can Chew
Based on my own experience taking workshops from master artists, I have found one of the qualities that makes them so impactful is the abundance of information. Each workshop I've taken, I come away with 2-3 key points that stick out, and notebook pages and dozens of photos chronicling the wealth of technique they shared in addition. This often lasts me years of painting to begin to grasp, and their words stay with me each time I go into my studio.
Thanks to their example, this is something I strive to offer in my workshops. My goal is to provide all the tools I've learned for artists to practice and understand in their own way.
The JLC team was so much fun to teach and spend time with, and I love following their work on social media.
